The purpose of this course was to introduce students to the basic skills and knowledge required of a science communicator. We explored science communication in traditional and especially new media environments. Students learned how to translate and communicate science to non-specialist audiences. Students learned to critically evaluate science journalism and well as scientific findings. Students got hands-on experience communicating science in a variety of mediums, where the goal was to develop a fundamental knowledge of how people view, understand and interpret scientific information and stories about science.
